Liverpool have identified the man that they want to step into Steven Gerrard’s role in central midfield when he makes his move to LA Galaxy, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The man in question is 24-year-old Miralem Pjanic, who currently plays in Serie A for last season’s runners-up Roma. Reports originated in Bosnia, claiming Liverpool have already been in contact with the midfielder with regard to a summer move, with a bid of around £23m being lined up.
Pjanic was one of the standout performers in a struggling Bosnia side in this year’s World Cup, contributing one goal and one assist in his side’s three group games.
He has carried that form into this season, accumulating three goals and four assists in 18 league starts, and will no doubt have a number of suitors from around Europe come the end of the season.
One club who have already made their interest known, it seems, is Bayern Munich. Bayern will be one of many suitors this summer, especially if Pjanic leads Roma to only their fourth Serie A title.
