Liverpool fans love James Pearce’s tweet ahead of fans returning to Anfield

A number of Liverpool fans have been loving The Athletic‘s James Pearce’s latest tweet, regarding fans returning to Anfield.

The Reds hopefully played their final match in front of no supporters for many, many years on Tuesday night, beating Ajax 1-0.

Curtis Jones’ second half strike earned Jurgen Klopp’s side all three points, sealing qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.

It was just the latest game to be played in front of an empty Anfield, as has been the case since June, when football returned after a three-month hiatus.

Liverpool will have 2,000 supporters back inside their world-famous stadium this weekend, however, with Wolves making the trip to Merseyside on Sunday night.

Tweeting after the Ajax game, Pearce revealed that banners and flag were being taken down ahead of the match, confirming that 1,500 fans are set to be in the Kop end, and the remaining 500 in the Main Stand.

These Liverpool supporters reacted to Pearce’s post, showing their excitement about what should be a special occasion at Anfield.
