Liverpool given boost in their pursuit of Hakim Ziyech

Liverpool have received a boost in their hopes of landing Ajax star Hakim Ziyech this summer, with Roma reportedly ending their interest in the player.

Reports in Italy, coming from Calcio Mercato, as cited on the Liverpool Echo, claim that Roma are no longer pursuing a move for the Moroccan international.

The player was heavily linked with both Roma and Liverpool, with the latter still searching for a long-term replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

Currently away at the World Cup, Ziyech was one of the standout performers from the Dutch league last season.

The 25-year-old scored nine times for Ajax but created an eye-catching 15 assists for his team-mates.

Ziyech has been earmarked as an alternative to Nabil Fekir, who Liverpool tried to sign earlier this month, only for the deal to fall through at the last minute.

A move for Fekir is still not thought to be out of the question but has been complicated by contrasting reports about why the move fell through.
