Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to a report in Spanish outlet SPORT.
SPORT suggest that talks between Thiago’s representatives and the new champions of the Premier League champions have been ongoing and that they have reached an advanced stage, meaning that a deal is close to being completed.
Last month, Christian Falk of BILD suggestEd that the Spainish international had already told his teammates that he would be interested in a move to Liverpool and that he’d also told officials at Bayern that he wanted a new challenge and as such, he didn’t want to hold talks about a contract extension.

Thiago’s class and ability can’t be questioned, nor can his record of winning major trophies with Bayern.
However, a move to sign the 29-year-old would seemingly go against Liverpool’s transfer policy as Michael Edwards and his recruitment team have predominantly looked at players of a younger age in the recent past.
Whether they believe that Thiago is so good that they’ll make an exception to their usual policy remains to be seen.
