Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane this summer, according to DiarioMadridsta.
The 27-year-old has arguably been one of the leading defenders of his generation, winning four Champions League titles with the La Liga giants.
Varane’s current Madrid current expires at the end of the next season, however, so they will only be able to receive a big fee for him this summer.
It is believed that the France international has been told of Liverpool’s interest, as they look to try and prise him away from Santiago Bernabeu.

Varane is an outstanding centre-back with undoubted pedigree, but it is hard to see the Reds signing him.
The Frenchman is about to turn 28, and while that is still very much prime age for a footballer, he would likely cost a huge amount, being valued at £63million by Transfermarkt currently.
Varane isn’t necessarily a long-term option and it could be that a younger player come instead, such as RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate, who Liverpool have also been linked with.
That being said, if the Madrid man came in, it is unlikely that too many Liverpool supporters would be complaining, given his stature in the game.
