Liverpool interested in signing Vinicius after watching him score twice

Liverpool are interested in making a move for Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius, according to O Jogo, via Sport Witness.

The Reds are believed to have watched Vinicius in action last weekend, when he scored twice in his side’s 3-2 defeat to rivals Porto.

The 24-year-old Brazilian, who has a €100 million exit clause in his contract, earned a 7.37 rating from WhoScored and has now scored 14 goals in the Primeira Liga this season.

Liverpool were not alone in scouting Vinicius, however, with Manchester United also reported to have watched the striker in action.

I believe the Reds could do with a superior backup to Roberto Firmino next season, with Vinicius fitting the bill.

Divock Origi has become a cult hero in the last 12 months, scoring some huge goals, but he doesn’t deliver as consistently as the Benfica star.

Rhian Brewster could also be an option next season, but he remains unproven at the top level.

I would be surprised if Vinicius was an additional signing to someone like Timo Werner, however, with the German continuing to be linked with a move to Liverpool.

There can only be so many top attacking players at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, in my opinion, in terms of keeping players happy and giving them regular playing time.
