After months of speculation and fakes, Liverpool unveiled their new new 2015-1016 New Balance kit today. The event was held in the Centenary Stand at Anfield with over 1000 supporters attending and webcast live via LFCTV and the club’s official website. Claire Rourke & Steve Hothersall hosted the event.
Martin Skrtel, Simon Mignolet, Raheem Sterling, and Daniel Sturridge were on hand to show off the new home kit, amidst the lights and smoke.
The new outfield kit features a checkerboard shadow pattern on the front with a solid back. There is thin white and yellow piping around the collar and cuffs. The logos and lettering is all white across the front and, continuing the recent tradition, the yellow 96 between two flames features on the back below the yoke.
The goalkeeper kit is black with red highlights. All lettering and logos are white, including the 96 logo.
Prior to the curtain drop, Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler kicked off the unveiling of Liverpool’s with a Q&A answer.
Both emphasised the importance of the badge on the front of the shirt with local Robbie Fowler saying, “Apart from the Everton & United games, seeing next season’s kit for first time was one of things I looked forward to most as a player.”
When asked what his favourite kit was, Robbie Fowler said, “As a player you always liked the kits that you scored goals in. I always liked the 96/97 kit, the one with the cricket style, white collar, because I scored a lot of goals in that one.”
New kits cause all kinds of chatter amongst supporters, and this one will be no different. However, New Balance definitely learned from past Warrior mistakes, at least, in coming up with the new associated hashtag – #HoldNothingBack.
