Liverpool linked with move for Kerem Demirbay

Liverpool are set to lose one German midfielder this summer when Emre Can’s contract expires in June but they have been linked with a move to replace him with one of his countrymen.

According to the London Evening Standard, the Reds have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay once the summer transfer window opens up.

Demirbay joined Hoffenheim from Hamburg for just £1.5m in the summer of 2016 and has made 52 appearances for the club as an attacking midfielder, netting eight goals and laying on 15 assists.

The 24-year-old was part of the Germany squad that were victorious at last summer’s Confederations Cup and is thought of highly in the national team ranks.

Hoffenheim value the creative midfielder at around £20m with both Liverpool and Arsenal keen on bringing him to the Premier League.

Liverpool will welcome Naby Keita to the club from Red Bull Leipzig in July but the likely departure of Can will leave a void in the squad and Demirbay is the latest of a slew of names to be linked with filling that potential vacancy.
