Liverpool have shown an interest in signing Sao Paulo midfielder Igor Gomes, according to a report from Brazilian outlet Esporte Interativo, as translated by Sport Witness.
The 21-year-old is apparently a target for Ajax, but the report claims that Liverpool, like the Dutch side, have made an approach to Gomes’ agent to get more information on his current situation and see if he would potentially be intereted in a move to Anfield.
The report also claims that Gomes has an EU passport, which could make any potential move to sign him easier than could otherwise be the case.

Whether Liverpool need to sign an attacking midfielder is a question worth asking, given that they already have plenty of options in that area.
However, given that Adam Lallana will leave the club when his contract expires and that Xherdan Shaqiri will potentially be on the move in the summer, then the need to sign a new player begins to make sense.
In a summer where spending might be a bit lower than Liverpool may have originally been planning, a move for a youngster like Gomes could make sense.
