Liverpool are ready to submit a £25 million bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to David Maddock of The Mirror.
The Belgian international, who has two years remaining on his current deal, has been targeted by Liverpool for a while now but with Villa wanting a bid close to his release clause, which is £32.5 million, it was reported that the Reds had cooled their interest in him.
But that does not seem to be the case as this is the second bid for Benteke after an initial bid of £22 million had already been rejected by Tim Sherwood’s side.
The 24-year-old has made it clear to the Villa board that he will not sign a new contract and with a new offer from Liverpool, Villa might be tempted to accept.
Rodgers is an admirer of Benteke and was keen on him last summer before injured his Achilles.
With Nathaniel Clyne’s transfer almost complete, Liverpool are pressing ahead with their next signing.
