Liverpool will compete in two fixtures in Australia, plus two in Asia, as part of a profitable pre-season tour this summer.
Brendan Rodgers’ squad first travelled Down Under in 2013, playing in front of 95,000 supporters at the Melbourne Cricket Ground – an occasion that conveyed a spectacular atmosphere and a spine-tingling rendition of club anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Adelaide and Brisbane are the likely destinations for Liverpool as they ready themselves for the 2015-16 campaign.
The Adelaide Oval – a cricket ground that holds 53,000 – and Brisbane’s 52,500-capactity Suncorp Stadium are set to play host to the lucrative matches.
Sources in Australia expect the fixtures to be formally announced in early February.
The formalities are not complete yet, but it is expected to be a two-week tour beginning in July, with the Reds stopping off in Asia on the way to Australia and again on their return to Merseyside.
Indonesia – where Liverpool played in front of 82,000 in July 2013 – and China are also in contention to host friendly games involving the Premier League giants. The former’s national airline Garuda is one of Liverpool’s key commercial partners.
The Reds visited Guangzhou, China during Kenny Dalglish’s most recent reign, but are expected to travel to Macau – 40 miles west of Hong Kong – on this occasion.
