Liverpool supposedly ready to sell Coutinho to Barcelona

Fresh reports in Spain suggest that Liverpool are ready to let midfield magician Philippe Coutinho join Barcelona in the January transfer window, following the Catalan side’s failure to sign him this summer.

Barcelona-based (and Barcelona-centric) newspaper SPORT (via the Daily Mail) have given their story the front page as they claim that Liverpool will bend over to Barcelona’s wishes to sign the Brazilian attacking-midfielder, who pushed for the move to go through during the summer window.

SPORT spent all summer insisting that Barcelona would sign Liverpool’s star man and are back at it again — which comes as no surprise.

In January of this year, Coutinho signed a contract to keep him at the club until 2022, so Liverpool are in no rush to sell him from a monetary perspective; a player of his ability is always going to have huge value with so many years left on his contract.

The Brazilian scored a marvelous goal against Leicester in Saturday’s 3-2 win, avenging the Reds’ midweek Carabao Cup exit at the King Power Stadium; and if he’s going to keep putting in performances instead of going on strike a la Diego Costa, it is highly doubtful that the club will look to sell him in the January window, with replacements for such a player being hard to come by, especially mid-season.
