Liverpool are getting closer to life without Mohamed Salah, and club chiefs are said to be ‘unanimous’ when it comes to the Egyptian King’s eventual successor.
Salah has long been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, with rumours intensifying ever since his public fallout with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot in December 2025.
The 33-year-old spoke out about being ‘thrown under the bus’ by the club and the lack of relationship he now has with Slot after the Reds 3-3 draw away at Leeds United.
Liverpool’s dream Mo Salah replacement
According to TEAMtalk, the Reds have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise. The Bundesliga giants are reluctant to allow their star man leave and Olise isn’t desperate to return to England.
While he reportedly looks back fondly on his three years at Crystal Palace, the 24-year-old isn’t in a rush to be a Premier League player again.
The France international has been in blistering form this season, netting 10 goals and racking up an incredible 16 assists in just 21 Bundesliga appearances.
Michael Olise’s Bayern Munich statistics (2025/26):
| Competition | Apps | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
| Bundesliga | 21 | 10 | 16 | 1,617 |
| Champions League | 8 | 1 | 3 | 633 |
| DFB-Pokal | 4 | 2 | 2 | 342 |
| Franz Beckenbauer Supercup | 1 | 0 | 0 | 90 |
| Total | 34 | 13 | 21 | 2,682 |
Olise is widely regarded as one of the best right-wingers in world football, and he’d be a natural replacement for Salah in Liverpool’s front three.
He hasn’t got the blistering pace of Salah, but Olise’s left foot is like a wand. Ever since his time at Selhurst Park, the biggest clubs in the world have been looking in the Frenchman’s direction.
Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal are all expected to be in the mix if Olise indicates a willingness to leave the Allianz Arena. However, that isn’t a reality at the moment.
Liverpool ‘all in’ on Bayern Munich superstar
As Olise is viewed as the ‘ideal Salah heir’ at Anfield, Liverpool are said to be ‘prepared to make a historic effort’ to land their main target.
Bayern’s unwillingness to sell and the player being happy in Germany won’t help matters, but according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool could break their British transfer record (£125 million) to secure Olise. They could be willing to pay up to £174m.
The five most expensive transfers in British football history:
| Rank | Player | Club (Buying) | Fee | Year |
| 1 | Alexander Isak | Liverpool | £125m | 2025 |
| 2 | Florian Wirtz | Liverpool | £108m | 2025 |
| 3 | Enzo Fernández | Chelsea | £106.8m | 2023 |
| 4 | Declan Rice | Arsenal | £105m | 2023 |
| 5 | Moisés Caicedo | Chelsea | £100m+ | 2023 |
“Liverpool understand that this won’t be a simple operation. Bayern have no intention of parting ways with one of their most decisive players, especially at this crucial stage of consolidating their project,” the report states.
Four alternatives lined up
Succession planning for Salah’s eventual exit, whether it’s this summer or next, is well underway on Merseyside.
Liverpool aren’t only keeping tabs on Olise as a new winger in the coming transfer windows. Paris Saint-Germain wide man Bradley Barcola is another elite option on the club’s radar.
Desire Doue and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams would cost huge money, but are potential signings.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig youngster Yan Diomande is admired by the Anfield-based outfit. The 19-year-old, like the other options mentioned, can play on either wing and may be considered as a Luis Diaz replacement.
