Lovren revitalised following high praise from Klopp

Dejan Lovren has not been a stranger to criticism since his move to Liverpool in 2014. Lovren was highly rated during his time with Southampton, and Liverpool were very hopeful of bolstering their defence following his £20 million switch.

Lovren has made 20 starts for the Reds this season, but has made a catalogue of mistakes, which has left Liverpool fans worried that he has not lived up to expectations. However, after a chat with Jurgen Klopp, the Croatian has found new hope and is determined to repay Klopp’s faith in him.

The defender revealed that Klopp told him that he could become one of the best players in the world if he can live up to the manager’s expectations.

Having been substituted by Klopp in Liverpool’s game against Tottenham earlier on in the season, Lovren said he was ‘fuming’ with his boss and that he wanted answers.

As quoted by the Mirror, Lovren said:

When he took me out at Spurs, I was fuming. But after, when we spoke, it took a couple of days then he invited me into his room. I wanted answers but he said positive things.

He said ‘if you just think about yourself like I think about you, you will be one of the best players in the world.

The Croatian international will be hoping to up his confidence and earn a place in the side ahead of the huge Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City on Wednesday.
