Lucas Leiva will stay at Liverpool until at least the end of the transfer window, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The Brazilian has been linked to a move away from Anfield, but defensive injuries mean that Jurgen Klopp wants to keep the player until cover is available.
Galatasaray have made an approach for the 29-year-old, but Klopp has always insisted he is no rush to offload the midfielder, who can slot in at defence.
And for now at least, it seems as if Lucas has a role to play on Merseyside, with the club’s Premier League opener against Arsenal less than two weeks away.
The former Gremio midfielder is sidelined himself at the moment having suffered a hamstring injury in a 2-0 pre-season win against Huddersfield Town two weeks ago.
He is expected to be out of action until mid August, which would rule him out of the visit to the Emirates Stadium on August 14.
But with Joel Matip, Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez and Alberto Moreno having all picked up injuries this summer aswell, Klopp wants to keep Lucas at Anfield until the German’s defensive worries ease up.
