Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini has quashed rumours concerning Liverpool supposed approach for Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
According to various reports in Croatia and Italy, the player had been subject of an approach by Brendan Rodgers’ side but this appears not to be true.
Roberto Mancini told Sky Italia: “Kovacic will become a champion.
“He is young, but has already improved a lot. I think he will stay at Inter.
“I don’t think there is anything going on with him regarding a transfer.”
This could be a blow to Liverpool fans who thought Kovacic could have been the marquee signing they desperately needed, especially given Kovacic’s performances in Serie A last season where he made 29 appearances, scoring five goals.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will pursue the 21-year-old but Inter clearly think he is remaining with the Italian giants.
