Could Markovic Be Heading To Watford, Not Fenerbahce?

Lazar Markovic, the Liverpool winger linked with a loan spell at Turkish club Fenerbahce, could be on his way to Watford instead.

A TalkSPORT report suggests that the newly-promoted Hornets could offer a sting in the tail after a plan for the Serbian international to ply his trade in Istanbul for the season appeared to be held up.

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores is reported to be interested in convincing the player to “stay in England and redeem himself” after an underwhelming first season in the Premier League.

However, the deal is by no means off, as Markovic – a £20m signing last summer from Benfica who made only 11 starts in his debut Premier League season – is still set to meet Fenerbahce representatives this weekend.

Phil McNulty of BBC Sport had earlier reported that a loan deal was “close” and that the Reds would receive a fee as part of the deal. He also insisted that Brendan Rodgers had no plans to sell Markovic, in contrast to his plans to jettison Mario Balotelli. That would imply it would be difficult to secure a permanent move to Vicarage Road if that is Flores’ intention – but there appears to be genuine uncertainty over where Markovic, who is still only 21, will play this season.
