Medjani has had “no contact” with Liverpool

Trabzonspor defender Carl Medjani has denied rumours that he is set to return to Anfield this summer.

The Algerian centre-back has played 32 times for his country despite being born in Lyon, France and representing the French national team at all but senior level.

He also captained France at the 2006 Toulon Tournament but opted to switch his allegiances to Algeria in 2010. He was part of the Algeria Word Cup Squad where they faced England in the grup stages but failed to make an appearance.

In an interview with France Football, Madjani said: “I am not happy at all the operation. There has been absolutely no contact with Liverpool.”

The 30-year-old spent three years at Liverpool having been signed by then manager Gerard Houllier. He failed to make it into Rafael Benitez’s plans during the Spaniards first season on Merseyside.

Medjani had a loan spell at FC Metz and FC Lorient before making his move to the Ligue 1 side permanent.

The centre-back has played an important role in the Trabzonspor defence having played in 30 out of 34 league games for the Turkish side scoring 7 goals.

He played every minute of every group game for Algeria during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but was an unused substitute against Germany in the last 16.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to solve his defensive problems with Liverpool being less than impressive at the back.
