- Liverpool are on the hunt for a replacement for Mohamed Salah
- Michael Olise has been identified as a potential target
- Bayern Munich are determined to keep the France international
Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Michael Olise from Bayern Munich to replace Mohamed Salah, but they are running a major risk.
The Reds have been knocked out of all cup competitions and are in the driving seat to secure UEFA Champions League qualification for the 2026/27 season as they sit seven points above seventh-placed Chelsea in the Premier League after they also lost 3-0 vs Brighton Hove Albion on Tuesday.
Therefore, Arne Slot side. do not have much to play for in their remaining five games, which means they can already have an eye on next season.
Considering their severe underperformance in this campaign, there is no doubt that Liverpool will look to strengthen their squad and bounce back next term.
One of their priorities this summer will be to replace Salah, who announced in March that he would leave the club prematurely.
Liverpool risk facing issues if they sign Olise
Olise has long been cited as a potential replacement for Salah. The Frenchman, like the Reds No. 11, is left-footed and, at 24, fits the bill.
He also has Premier League experience, having left Crystal Palace to join Bayern in 2024.
However, Florent Malouda reckons Olise is happy with the German giants and is unlikely to depart at this point.
Moreover, the Chelsea legend wants Liverpool to use the players at their disposal, including Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, before splashing the cash on a replacement for Salah.
He is of the view that signing players for the sake of it will cause more problems for Slot.
Malouda told Snabbare, via the Liverpool Echo “Michael Olise to replace Mohamed Salah? He is happy at Bayern. I think they also have talent to develop. They have Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, they can find a solution internally.
“They need to work with the players they have before bringing more players because it might lead to more issues. You bring good players, and when they arrive in the environment, they’re not performing.
“I think that’s the question Liverpool need to address before bringing top talent.”
Lazy punditry from Malouda, Reds in talks to sign Yan Diomande
To say Liverpool should not sign an attacker to replace Salah is lazy punditry from Malouda.
In truth, the six-time European champions already needed at least one new forward, with the Egyptian’s exit only increasing the urgency.
Anyone who has watched Slot’s side play this season would agree that they have struggled because of a lack of pace on the wings.
Salah’s unexpected, rapid decline has been alarming, while Cody Gakpo has failed to inject pace from the left-hand side.
That is why the Anfield outfit must sign one or two attackers this summer.
The Liverpool think tank are said to have already approved a move for Yan Diomande, although RB Leipzig want £85million for him.
