Liverpool goalkeeper has been singing his compatriot Divock Origi’s praises recently. Origi was signed by Liverpool from Lille in the summer of 2014 and then immediately loaned back to the French club. But the 20 year old will be plying his trade at Anfield this season and Mignolet has spoken a bit about what the fans can expect.
The stopper told the official Liverpool FC magazine:
“He’s only young but on the other side he’s also quite experienced, having played in Ligue 1 in France and with the Belgian national team.”
Origin was monitored by Liverpool for a long time, and his appearances at the World Cup for Belgium really caught the eye. He then went on to score eight goals in the Ligue 1 this season. Mignolet has had the pleasure of watching the young man closely during Belgium’s training session.
“He’s got a lot of ability, he is quick and can score a goal and he is willing to work for the team and put pressure on defences.
“He’s got a great attitude, so what more do you want? I am looking forward to when he is going to join.”
Mignolet went on to speak about the advantage of having a familiar face with you at a new club, in a new country. The ‘keeper has reassured fans that he is prepared to help Origi settle into life at Liverpool as quick as possible.
“I remember when I was younger and first came over to England, it was important to have someone at Sunderland like Bolo Zenden who spoke my language.
“I’m always ready to do that with anyone who comes into the team, and obviously being Belgian it should help Divock.
“I’ve helped a few guys in the past because I speak a fair few languages and I know when you come into a new side and a new country it’s not always easy to settle.
“It’s nice for me, too, to have a compatriot coming into the team. It means that I won’t be the only Belgian anymore so it will be easier for me to fight my corner!”
