Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has praised Liverpool’s new signing Thiago Alcantara ahead of a doubleheader between the two sides next week.
The Reds landed the Spanish midfielder from Bayern Munich for a fee rising to £27 million.
During his pre-match press conference as reported by football.london, the Gunners boss reserved some praise for Anfield’s new number six:
Incredible personality, great talent, very special, great qualities to play in midfield and yes, I think he is a great signing for Liverpool.
Thiago’s countryman Arteta refused to be drawn on his own side’s rumoured interest in the midfielder, although his answer did suggest that he might have had an interest in the Spaniard.
We don’t discuss the things we try and do in the market, but I like him from my time in Barcelona.
Ahead of Monday night’s first meeting between the two sides, both have won their opening two leauge matches with Arsenal coming past Fulham and West Ham and with Liverpool beating both Leeds and Chelsea.
Both clubs booked thier places in next Thursday’s fourth-round League Cup clash with wins over Leicester and Lincoln City, respectively.
Two goals apiece from Curtis Jones and Takumi Minamino were part of a seven-goal haul for the makeshift Reds side who gave debuts to Diogo Jota and Kostas Tskimikas.
Thiago was left out of the matchday squad, underlining his importance to the squad despite his recent arrival and perhaps suggesting that he could feature for the Reds on Monday night.
