It has been revealed this evening that James Milner has held contract talks with both Arsenal and Liverpool about joining the clubs when his current Manchester City deal runs out at the end of June.
Sky Sports have been quotes as saying that Milner will not be making a decision over his future until the upcoming England internationals, meaning that we may not end up knowing where his future lies until the last weeks of June.
It is seeming increasingly likely that he won’t sign an improved off on the one he currently has, rumored to be in the region of £165,000 a week, which would go some way to suggesting that money isn’t an underlying factor in choosing his next club.
Location and playing time in particular will be important to Milner, and this could put Liverpool in particularly good stead to sign the midfielder, considering its close proximity to Manchester and not needing to uproot his young family. Arsenal could offer more money than Liverpool, but one would think that Liverpool will be the team who will be able to offer more first team football, given Arsenal’s vast strength-in-depth in midfield.
