James Milner has been confirmed as Liverpool’s new vice-captain.
The Reds midfielder, who joined the club earlier this summer, will be the understudy to newly appointed captain Jordan Henderson.
The club confirmed the news this afternoon, to a fairly good response from fans.
Milner has indeed made a good start to his Liverpool career. The new vice-captain has impressed with his pre-season performances.
It’s also a bold move from Brendan Rodgers, who had a plethora of players to pick from.
Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel are just two of the candidates who may feel hard done by, but it’s difficult to argue against Milner’s experience in the Premier League after his time at Man City.
Liverpool head to Stoke on Sunday for their first test as a new look squad, and both the captain, Henderson, and Milner, the vice-captain, are expected to start at the Britannia.
An avoidance of last season’s curtain closer would be a start…
