Liverpool have been linked with a move for Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya, and the player will make a decision on his future in the coming days.
Marca have reported that Aleix Vidal’s arrival at the Nou Camp coupled with Dani Alves’ decision to sign a new contract in Catalunya could hasten Montoya’s departure, with Liverpool a suitor.
Montoya has been on the fringes of the first team side ever since Pep Guardiola gave him his first taste of first team football back in 2011, however he has never managed to make himself a regular in the team.
Now, with Vidal and Alves both competing for the right back spot in the team, Montoya faces the prospect of falling to third choice in the pecking order.
The 24-year-old is definitely an option for the Reds given that the Premier League confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that they were releasing Glen Johnson.
With Jon Flanagan sidelined with another long-term injury and Javier Manquillo unable to make a telling impact on the starting XI last season, Montoya could solve the problems Liverpool have experienced in finding a right-back especially after an initial £10m bid for Nathaniel Clyne was rejected by Southampton earlier in the summer.
