Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that Liverpool are more than capable of mounting a serious title challenge in the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Liverpool have spent in excess of £80m this summer, with reinforcements including Christian Benteke, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez and Adam Bodgan, as well as the return of Divock Origi, who spent last season on loan at former club Lille.
The Reds failed to repeat the success of their 2013-14 season last term, with the club finishing outside of the top four having lost key marksman Luis Suarez in a mega-deal to Barcelona, whilst Daniel Sturridge spent the majority of the season on the sideline with a number of injuries.
But Mourinho now believes that the reinvestment the club has made will ensure they are up there with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.
When asked if Liverpool are capable of forcing their way back in to title contention, the Portuguese told Sky Sports:
“I believe so, I believe the top five are the top five.
“I think why not a club like Tottenham Hotspur who can try to get there, but in the end there are the top five with the responsibility (to succeed).
“Arsenal are a fantastic team, and Liverpool have made amazing investment.”
