“Nowhere near good enough” – Jamie Carragher brutally assesses Divock Origi

Jamie Carragher has provided a brutal assessment of Divock Origi, claiming he is “nowhere near good enough”.

The Belgian has been a peripheral figure for the Reds this season, finding playing time hard to come by.

Origi has made just two Premier League starts all season, also scoring only once in all competitions.

Speaking on Sky Sports Super 6 Podcast, Carragher didn’t hold back with regards to the striker, saying he simply isn’t up to the level required at Anfield:

If you look at Liverpool’s attacking players they don’t have a striker. Jota is not a striker, same with Mane, same with Salah.

They have Divock Origi but he’s nowhere near good enough. And he a lot of the time plays out wide, because he can’t play as a centre-forward.

Origi will always be fondly remembered for what he has achieved at Liverpool, considering his memorable goals against the likes of Everton, Newcastle United, Barcelona and Tottenham back in 2018/19.

That being said, the Belgium international simply doesn’t offer enough when he plays now, too often blunting the Reds’ attack and flattering to deceive. To have only scored four league goals since the start of last season is not good enough.

This summer should see Origi move on, with superior backup players needed if Liverpool are to get back to the top again.
