Liverpool have earned a reputation under Jurgen Klopp for being among the smartest recruiters in the Premier League.
So often when big money, or indeed any money, is spent, the expenditure ultimately is worthwhile and often soon looks like yet another bargain deal.
Recent examples such as the £8million spend on Andy Robertson and £41million on bringing Diogo Jota from Wolves, now appear to be incredibly shrewd pieces of business.
Whilst many of the incomings have been on the frugal side compared to rivals, there have been outliers. Namely the big-money deals to land Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Naby Keita and Fabinho.
These have since been dubbed as ‘transformational signings’, those that the club sees as necessary in order to take Jurgen Klopp’s side to the next level.

Heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham in recent times, Liverpool would need to spend a reported £90million to sign the 18-year-old midfielder.
That fee would surpass anything the club has been willing to reach previously, but for such a precocious talent – described this week as the ‘real deal’ by Owen Hargreaves – it may just be worth every penny.

Overall this season Bellingham has scored six times and provided 12 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Albeit the Reds’ squad is enjoying rich health at present, particularly in the midfield department, that wasn’t and isn’t always the case.
Bellingham truly is a generational talent and would appear to already have a soft spot for the club having previously spoken of an idolisation of Steven Gerrard.
Both of the last major expenditures on the midfield came in 2018 when Fabinho and Keita were signed, since then it has been reliant on those that were in situ previously and the bargain £20million capture of Thiago.
Whilst the likes of Curtis Jones, Tyler Mortin and Harvey Elliott have all shown varying degrees of promise when stepping up, there is room for another high-quality operator in Klopp’s ranks.
That’s especially true when you consider Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both in the final 18 months of their respective contracts, Jordan Henderson and James Milner are facing a reduction of game time and Thiago seems to be in need of fitness management.
Furthermore, the 10-cap England ace would be an added boost to the required homegrown quota within the squad.
Taking all of this into consideration, as well as the sheer quality possessed by the £67.5million valued teenager, the £90million asking price would almost automatically be money well spent.
