Liverpool FC have confirmed that Australia will be one of the stops on their pre-season tour for the 2015/16 season.
After playing Brisbane Roar in Queensland, the Reds will travel to Adelaide to face Adelaide United and then move onto Brisbane for their first ever visit.
Brendan Rodgers’ team visited Melbourne 18 months ago, where they played Melbourne Victory in front of a sell-out MCG of over 95,000.
Chief executive officer Ian Ayre had this to say on the outing in 2013: “We visited Australia for the first time two years ago and the support we received from our Australian fans was incredible. Liverpool FC have more than 600,000 supporters in Australia and we look forward to meeting as many of them as possible while we are in the country”.
Those who were present for that huge spectacle in Melbourne will be contacted through official supporters clubs by the Liverpool regarding a ticket pre-sale.
Tom Koutsatonis, South Australia’s acting tourism minister, claimed that having a Liverpool match at the Adelaide Oval would be a “magnificent showcase” for both the stadium and Southern Australia.
“Such world-class sporting events are huge draw cards, and we also anticipate a global TV audience for the game, so it is the perfect platform to showcase Adelaide to the rest of the world.”
