Former Sunderland forward Stephen Elliott believes Liverpool should make an attempt to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero this summer.
The Argentine is set to leave the Etihad at the end of the season, bringing an end to a decade long stay in Manchester.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could be in the market for a recognised striker after watching his forwards fail to find the net with the regularity shown in previous seasons.
That wastefulness, combined with key injuries to important players has seen Liverpool fail to defend the Premier League title – potentially handing the league to City this afternoon with a victory over arch-rivals Manchester United.
Elliott, who played 17 times in the top-flight, told Off The Ball following City’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace that the 32-year-old would be the ideal man for the Anfield role.
If I am the Liverpool manager, I am signing him (Aguero) 100%. I watched him today and he still looks hungry in and around the goal. I think Aguero could be a massive signing. Whether he would come and sign for a rival of City, I am not sure. It would be a gigantic signing for Liverpool. I think he would lift the place.
Aguero has been a lesser-seen star at the champions-elect this season, scoring just four goals in 16 appearances, having previously been an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Capped a remarkable 97 times by Argentina, there’s little doubting the prolific strikers’ abilities, however, failing to score at Anfield in 15 visits across spells with City and Atletico Madrid – Kopites may be reticent to see the frontman in Red.

Signing Aguero for free from Liverpool’s main rivals over recent years would undoubtedly be an earth-shattering statement.
Whether or not the Argentine is the type of player suited to Klopp’s system would have to be in question.
But, in terms of pure goalscoring instincts and prowess, the experienced ace would top the bill in the squad.
