RB Leipzig categorically deny that Timo Werner has agreed to join Bayern

Liverpool’s hopes of signing striker Timo Werner may not be completely dead yet after RB Leipzig reacted angrily to reports which suggested that a deal to send the German to Bayern Munich was already completed.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the 22-year-old would be joining the German champions in the summer but Leipzig chief Ralf Rangnick, who is currently managing the side until Julian Nagelsmann takes over in the summer, denied that any deal had been agreed.

As reported by The Mirror, he said:

A possible agreement is impossible for 2019 [right now]. We would have to agree, and we are not. Nobody has approached us from Bayern.

Rangnick also confirmed that Werner will not be allowed to leave on a free transfer or on the cheap, and went on to say that whilst the striker could leave Leipzig, he will go on the club’s terms.

There will not be a case like Leon Goretzka and Robert Lewandowski between us and Timo Werner. This option does not exist and we do not need to talk about this scenario. Clubs that want him will report in the summer and then we will find a fair, mutually agreed solution. Everything else is not an option.

Liverpool know all too well how difficult it can be to do business with Leipzig, having gone through a whole saga when trying to sign Naby Keita in the summer of 2017 and they’ll be hoping that the German side are equally as stubborn with Bayern as it could allow them to swoop for Werner.
