Real Betis eye up summer move for Adrian

Real Betis are weighing up a summer move for Adrian, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The 33-year-old only joined Liverpool last summer, moving to Anfield on a free transfer from West Ham, so if, in theory, the Reds did sell him, they would make a profit on any transfer fee involved in the deal.

An injury to Alisson immediately saw Adrian thrown into the side and he has made 15 appearances this season, proving to be the penalty hero in the Reds’ UEFA Super Cup triumph over Chelsea.

It is now being reported that the Spaniard could move on, although Betis see Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Antonio Adan as their first-choice option to be Joel Robles’s deputy.

I think it would be a shame to see Adrian leave so soon, considering the impact he has already made at Liverpool.

Not only did his aforementioned Super Cup heroics make him an instant hero, but the Reds won all eight Premier League games with him in goal.

Adrian’s ball-playing ability and vast experience make him an ideal backup to Alisson – his 71.3 per cent pass completion rate is superior to Simon Mignolet’s in his last season (69.5%) at Liverpool – so I hope to see the club turn down any potential approach for him.

Youngsters such as Kamil Grabara and Caoimhin Kelleher are exciting prospects – the latter impressed in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town – but neither have the experience to be second-choice ‘keeper for the European Champions yet.
