Real Madrid enter the race for Liverpool target De Ligt

Real Madrid are lining up a €70million bid for Ajax centre-back and reported Liverpool target Matthijs de Ligt, according to Sport, via Calciomercato.

The Dutchman is one of the most highly-rated young players in the world, winning the 2018 Golden Boy award last year.

His stellar performances at the back for Ajax, captaining the side at the age of just 19, have led to interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Liverpool have been tipped to make a move for him, as Jurgen Klopp eyes up partnering De Ligt with his international colleague Virgil van Dijk.

Barcelona have arguably looked the most likely team to acquire his signature, but La Liga rivals Real are now ready to swoop.

With Sergio Ramos not getting any younger, the reigning European champions could do with some fresh legs in their back-line.

De Ligt represents just that, and is seen as someone who could be one of the best on the planet in the coming years.

Ajax are set to have a serious fight on their hands to keep hold of the prodigious teenager this summer.
