The Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool are involved in a three-way battle with Tottenham Hotspur and Portuguese side Porto for Barcelona’s Marc Bartra.
The Spanish international has seen his playing time at the Nou Camp become limited after the arrival of Jeremy Mathieu and the solidity of the Gerard Pique-Javier Mascherano partnership.
The defender could be available for a cut price fee of just £9 million this summer. He is currently contesting Barça over certain clauses in his contract.
It is thought the 24-year-old’s buy-out clause is in fact higher than the aforementioned fee as he has played a certain number of games for the Catalans.
But Bartra states that those number of games should only include competitive matches and exclude friendlies.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is seeking to strengthen his defence after a shaky league campaign last season.
Porto can offer him Champions League football unlike the Reds and Spurs who have both qualified for the Europa League.
Bartra played 20 matches last season and scored one goal.
