Charlie Austin is becoming a heavily sought-after player and it seems Liverpool have now entered the race for his signature, according to The Northern Echo.
The Queens Park Rangers forward was being targeted by clubs like Newcastle United and West Ham United but reports state that Liverpool officials have made contact with Austin’s representatives to gauge their interest in a potential deal.
Brendan Rodgers is considering bringing in the 25-year-old to join Danny Ings at Anfield as he prepares his squad for a crucial season.
Austin, who also used to play for Burnley, scored 18 goals for QPR last season but it was not enough to prevent them getting relegated to the Championship. QPR owner Tony Fernandes will want up to £15 million for the striker.
Liverpool on the other hand are preparing to spend heavily on a striker after the team only managed to score 52 goals in the last league campaign.
With the likes of Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli all seemingly on their way out; the Reds will need to make sure they can secure some forwards.
