Contract rebel Raheem Sterling could be on his way to Arsenal this summer, but only if the Gunners offer Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs in exchange, according to ESPNFC.
Sterling’s current deal expires in 2017, but it is looking increasingly likely that he will leave before then.
Liverpool have insisted that the forward is not for sale, but will look at the best deal they can get and assess their options from there.
And according to sources close to ESPN, Liverpool feel as if a deal that would best suit them would come in the form of a swap deal, involving the two Arsenal men.
Walcott would be a natural replacement for Raheem Sterling in Liverpool’s squad, and would possibly offer more in terms of goal contribution.
The former Southampton man has stated his desire to play as a central striker many times before, an opportunity he could have at Liverpool with the likely overhaul in that position this summer, and Daniel Sturridge’s on-going injury problems.
With Jose Enrique likely to leave, and Jon Flanagan out injured for most of next season, Liverpool will need to add a full-back this summer, unless they intend to look to the youth ranks.
Gibbs would provide decent competition for Alberto Moreno at left back, after the Spaniard had a very inconsistent first season at Anfield.
