According to Ian Herbert of The Independent, Liverpool’s pursuit of further goal scoring reinforcements will continue as Ian Ayre returns from a successful Chile trip.
Ayre left Liverpool for the South American country on Monday and swiftly completed the signing of Robert Firmino.
It was thought that the chief executive of Liverpool would then get to work on securing the signing of either Carlos Bacca or Salomon Rondon but it seems that there have not been any developments with either case.
Liverpool remain hopeful on Aston Villa reducing their asking price for striker Christian Benteke.
Villa want a fee close to the Belgian’s release clause which is said to be £32.5 million, but Liverpool are reluctant to pay such a substantial amount of money.
The Reds are waiting for the outcome of their chase for Benteke before turning their attentions elsewhere.
Bacca would also need a release clause to be activated but in his case it is reported to be circa £21 million while Rondon’s club, Zenit St. Peterburg, may be willing to sell the Venezuelan for £15 million.
