Southampton are prepared to accept Liverpool’s bid of £10.5m, rising to £12.5m, for Nathaniel Clyne, according to Paul Joyce of The Express.
The Reds had an initial offer thought to be in the region £9m rejected by the Saints but it seems they have prepared a new and improved bid for the England international.
John Percy of The Telegraph says Liverpool are ‘on the brink’ of securing the 24-year-old’s services.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have once again targeted a player from Southampton after signing Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana last summer.
Southampton have already acquired the services of right-back Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon and he is expected to act as a direct replacement for Clyne.
Liverpool released Glen Johnson earlier this month and are in the market for a new right-back. Spanish defender Javier Manquillo is entering the second year of his two-year loan but has fallen out of favour with Rodgers.
The Reds are wasting no time this summer and wrapping deals up swiftly.
