Liverpool’s pursuit of a striker could take them towards another Brazilian, reports the Express, as Shakhtar Donetsk have alerted the Reds to the availability of their forward Luiz Adriano.
With one of Liverpool’s reported targets, Carlos Bacca, closing in on a move to AC Milan, it seems the club are quickly seeing their options diminish.
Adriano, 28, has only one year left on his contract, and manager Mircea Lucescu has admitted that the club cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer next year.
“The lad did not accept the proposal from the United Arab Emirates, one that was very advantageous for us,” Lucescu told Calciomercato.com.
“It’s a pity, as we want to sell him now and cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer in January. The offer from Al-Ahli was for €8m (£5.5m).”
These quotes come as an obvious come-and-get-him plea to clubs across the globe, yet with it well know that Liverpool need a striker, this story could be seen as a perfect storm and there could very well be very little in the story.
What is true is that Liverpool will want to bring a striker in this summer, yet with only four Brazilian caps to his name at his age, it could be seen as too much of a risk for a player who is probably at the peak of his ability right now.
