Liverpool are now targeting Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez, according to Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb.
The chase for a striker has been intensified after the Reds agreed a deal for their sixth signing of the summer, Nathaniel Clyne.
Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke remains their number one target but with the two clubs yet to reach a compromise, Liverpool are putting the feelers out on other targets.
Carlos Bacca was an option for the club but he is now on the verge of a move to Italian club AC Milan.
Salomon Rondon was also reported to be liked by Brendan Rodgers but a move for the Zenit St. Petersburg striker has failed to materialise as of yet.
Their chase has now led to German international Gomez.
The 29-year-old, who used to play for German giants Bayern Munich, has been in Italy since 2013 but has failed to recapture the form that won him the German Player of the Year’award in 2007 and he may be willing to seek pastures new.
Gomez also has a significant number of appearances for the German national team but has failed to make the team in recent times.
