A report from L’Equipe [via Sport Witness] has criticised Michael Edwards’ recent business at Liverpool, stating that he has made a number of ‘damaging’ decisions this season.
Edwards has been widely lauded in recent years, having excelled in the role of sporting director at Anfield, showing masterful skills in the transfer market.
This latest report lambasts him, however, saying that Thiago ‘looks like a failure’ so far, also pointing out not replacing Dejan Lovren and allowing Gini Wijnaldum to drift into the final year of his contract as bad decisions.

In truth, this report is ludicrously harsh on Edwards, who continues to do a fantastic job, on the whole.
It is still far too early to judge Thiago, with the Spaniard adjusting to Liverpool’s style of play, missing three months through injury and coming into a team low on confidence and with central midfielders playing in defence.
Similarly, the decision not to replace Lovren was fully understandable at the time – it is only a freak number of injuries to centre-backs that have seen the issue arise, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all out for the season.
Jurgen Klopp clearly values Edwards greatly and this criticism of him should be taken with a pinch of salt.
