Serie A side Lazio are to speak with Mamadou Sakho’s agent according to Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.
The French International arrived on Anfield in 2013 from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, but injuries prevented the 25-year-old from finding his best form last season, thus he was restricted to just 16 Premier League appearances.
Next year the European Championships are hosted in Sakho’s home country and inevitably the defender wants to ensure he is a part of the French squad for the tournament, so wants a guarantee of first-team action.
With Liverpool already having a host of central defenders, such as Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovern and Kolo Toure, competition for a starting place in heart of the Reds’ defence looks strife.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has already confirmed that versatile defender Joe Gomez is to stay on at Anfield and fight for a place and with Tiago llori and Andre Wisdom still in the mix to stay at the club rather than go out on loan.
Northern Irishman Rodgers is reluctant to lose Sakho, and La Lazio Siamo Noi understand that if any move is to be made at the present time a loan deal looks the most likely.
However Sakho who made his senior international debut against England in 2010 is under contract on Merseyside until 2017, and unlikely to depart.
