Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson believes teammate Mohamed Salah has what it takes to compete with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi if he can maintain his fine form.
In an interview with talkSPORT, the Scot backed Salah to continue the scintillating form that saw him bag 44 goals in 52 appearances for the Reds last season.
His 32 league goals helped him to win the Golden Boot, with second-placed Harry Kane a comfortable margin behind the Egyptian, who has emerged as a surprise potential candidate for Balon d’Or this year.
Despite picking up a shoulder injury during the Champions League final, Salah has still been picked by his country for the World Cup and is likely to feature in two of Egypt’s three group stage games.
But Robertson has backed Salah to build on his brilliant season, and believes he could rise to Messi and Ronaldo’s level if he does.
Robertson spoke of the heights Salah can hit:
They’ve done it for six or seven seasons and he’s just done it in one. But I’ve got no doubt Salah can build on it and do it over a period of time.
