Rodgers denies ‘mass exodus’

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has reiterated that all is under control at the club heading towards the summer and the end of the season, and that there will be “no mass exodus”, the Mirror are reporting.

The Reds will lose their captain Steven Gerrard in the summer, meanwhile Suso has left for AC Milan this January window, whilst Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan, Kolo Toure and Brad Jones become free agents in five months time. Furthermore, Martin Skrtel, Jose Enrique, Sebastian Coates and Rickie Lambert could potentially be sold so that they do not become free agents in the following year.

Rodgers has explained how he would like to keep the likes of Lucas and Johnson in the past week, as they are the experience in the side. Mario Balotelli wishes to fight for his place, who alongside Fabio Borini and Joe Allen have two years remaining, whilst Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho appear to be close to putting pen to paper on new long term deals.

But Jordan Henderson has less than 18 months on his current contract and has not yet agreed any new deal with the club.

However Rodgers is remaining focused and composed regarding the situation.

“We can’t have three or four leaving – it’s about the needs of the team,” he stated.

“The intention is to keep the senior players because of the mix of the group. For our young players to develop, they will need seniority around. You cannot just have a group of young players.”
