Rodgers sacked by Liverpool

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been relieved of his duties at the Merseyside club, in the aftermath of Sunday’s derby.

Liverpool have started slowly this season, despite picking up two wins from the first two league games, a point at Arsenal and a draw away at Bordeaux in the Europa League opener.

Since then, they have struggled at home to Norwich and were spineless at Old Trafford, not to mention being humiliated 3-0 by West Ham at Anfield.

Only through penalties were the five-time Champions League winners able to progress to the next round of the Capital One Cup at the expense of League Two Carlisle.

Following today’s draw at Goodison Park, the Northern Irishman’s time is up.

Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti are amongst optimistic potential candidates to replace Rodgers.

Rodgers led the Reds through their most successful season in years, where they finished second behind Manchester City in 2013-14, and seemed to revitalise supporters’ hopes of winning the Premier League title sometime soon.

But Liverpool dropped straight back down the table and the hope and excitement was quickly distinguished. The former Swansea manager has been under pressure ever since.

The Reds now head into the international break without a manager at the helm.
