Roma prepared to sell Liverpool target Pellegrini

There will be a reshuffle in Liverpool’s midfield next season with the arrival of Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig, but the likely departure of Emre Can will leave the Reds short of options and they will look to address this.

One of the players that Liverpool are said to be targeted is Roma and Italy standout Lorenzo Pellegrini. Rome have gone out of their way to say that they will not look to sell the player, but a release clause in his contract could take the decision out of their hands.

Reports in Italy suggest that Pellegrini could leave Roma in the summer if his €32m release clause is met in full, a fee that Liverpool shouldn’t struggle with meeting if they are serious about signing the 21-year-old.

Pellegrini came through the ranks at Roma before leaving for Sassuolo in 2015 for a mere £1.1m, but the Serie A giants activated their buy-back clause in the deal to re-sign the midfielder for £9m last summer.

Seen as an all-action midfielder, Pellegrini would be an ideal replacement for Can at the heart of the Liverpool midfield, with the German wanted by the likes of Juventus, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, while both Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked.
