Liverpool are set to name Sean O’Driscoll as their new assistant manager, according to Andy Hunter of the Guardian.
Paul Joyce of the Express has reported that Pep Lijnders will be appointed to the backroom staff as well.
Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh have parted ways with Brendan Rodgers and the Liverpool manager was on the search for their replacements.
Names such as Rene Meulensteen, Pako Ayesteran and Sami Hyppia were tipped to come in but it now seems that the England Under-19s head coach will take up the role.
Rodgers is a fan of O’Driscoll’s work and has spoken glowingly of him in 2013:
“Look at Sean O’Driscoll. He is one of the best coaches I have ever come across. He is working at Bristol City. He has never had a chance in the top flight. His teams were expressive, had movement, they were technical, but he will probably never get a chance at a higher level.”
If he does accept the role, he will be leaving the England job after just nine months.
O’Driscoll is a Republic of Ireland international and spent most his playing career at Bournemouth.
He went on to manage there for six years and also managed Doncaster Rovers for five years.
After brief spells at Crawley Town, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, he was appointed as head coach of the England Under-19s team by The FA.
