According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are lining up a move for Lazio centre back Wesley Hoedt as the Saints prepare for the departure of Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk is set to hold talks with Southampton this week over his future at St. Mary’s with Liverpool still being heavily linked with the Dutchman.
The Saints are lining up a move for Lazio and van Dijk’s fellow countryman Hoedt as they look to replace the Dutchman before he leaves near the beginning of the season.
Van Dijk trained alone at Southampton’s training ground while the squad were in France for their pre-season preparations last week, which intensified rumours of his departure even more.

Chelsea were briefly linked with a move for the defender earlier in the window but Liverpool became the favourites after the defender made his desire to work with Jurgen Klopp known.
