Southampton join the race to sign Adam Lallana

Southampton have joined the likes of Brighton, Burnley, Everton and Leicester in the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana on a free transfer, according to a report from The Express.

Lallana originally joined The Reds from the Saints back in 2014 and now, over six years later, he will be leaving the club on a free transfer as his latest contract is expiring.

The 32-year-old signed a short-term extension with The Reds to see out the campaign after the pandemic caused the mid-season break but he’s yet to feature in a game since Project Restart started as both he and Jurgen Klopp did not want to risk him getting injured ahead of his upcoming move.

After The Reds play Newcastle on Sunday, Lallana will officially become a free agent and he will then be free to choose his next club if he has not done so already.

Under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, Southampton are well-known for their a high-intensity, high-pressing playing style and when he’s been fully fit, Lallana has excelled in a similar system under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, so he could be a good fit for Saints if that’s where he chooses to go.
