Ex-Celtic and current Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk is eagerly awaiting the January transfer window, when he hopes he will finally get his long-awaited move to Liverpool.

Speaking to Fox Sports (via This Is Anfield) upon joining up with his national team for their final two World Cup qualifiers, Van Dijk said of his summer transfer window experience:
I have no regrets
Of course, I wanted to go one step up [in the summer], but eventually Southampton did not want to let me go.
Van Dijk made it known to Southampton that he wished to leave the club and a move to Liverpool seemed imminent before the Saints blocked the move and refused to let star defender go anywhere.

He continued:
I’m a professional, so now I’ll give everything to the club. Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.
Liverpool have conceded sixteen goals in their last 10 games, and have only won three of those matches. Van Dijk would certainly bolster the defence if he were to arrive at Anfield in January, but there are a lot of games to be played between now and then so Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to find a temporary solution until a move for the Dutch centre-back is possible in the new year.
Liverpool play Southamton at St Mary’s next month so it will be interesting to see if Van Dijk has any involvement in that game — and if he does, his performance will need to be a good one in front of his prospective future employers.
