Southgate approves of Ings’ Liverpool move

England Under-21s manager Gareth Southgate has hailed Danny Ings’ impending arrival at Anfield as a great move for the player.

Southgate spoke about the move as he prepares to take his Under-21 side, including Ings, to the European Championships.

Having first come to Southgate’s attention during October 2013, the season in which he earned the Championship Player of the Year award as well as firing the Clarets to promotion he fired his first England goal in a game against San Marino the following month.

Of the challenge his move poses Southgate said “he’s a player that’s always wanting to learn and wanting to improve, he has a great mindset and I think some of his experiences with us will help him with the challenge at Liverpool.

He continued on to back the young striker to succeed at his new club, believing that “Burnley has been a fantastic grounding for him, the ethos of the manager [Dyche] and the way he demands that players learn and improve every day has rubbed off on Danny.

Ings will no doubt be delighted to have the backing of his international boss, it remains to see the fee Liverpool will eventually pay for the player as negotiations continue.
